Traffex Daily Feature

Applied Traffic featured in the Tuesday edition of the Traffex Daily News on 29th March 2011.

Simple and easy bus detection

A new bus detection system which enables bus priority at traffic signal-controlled junctions is being launched at Traffex by Applied Traffic.

Alan Cook of Applied Traffic explains that the VIPERLITE Bus Priority euro card has been developed on the back of a contract for Nottingham County Council. ‘Nottingham got in touch because they were interested in a selective bus detection system which could be used as a retrofit system rather than a new installation and could integrate into their existing infrastructure. We came up with a solution for them and as a result of the feedback from the trial we were able to develop a bespoke product.’

This product is being launched worldwide. The VIPERLITE Bus Priority card is designed for rack mounting within the traffic signal controller. The modules are available in two and four lane versions. Also new are the VIPERLITE Bus Priority + SCOOT euro card modules for enabling bus priority and SCOOT occupancy data at traffic signal-controlled junctions. This card is also designed for rack mounting within the traffic signal controller and provides two lanes of bus priority and two SCOOT outputs.

Alan Cook says this bus detection system has proved accurate and flexible in use and is being installed in a number of projects across the country. ‘This technology solution requires no on-board equipment on the buses and overcomes the problems caused by operators re-deploying buses to other areas. What this bus detection system offers is and effective, low cost solution which can be deployed on street now.’

TEC Features the new VIPERLITE Bus Priority

Applied Traffic are thrilled with the feature article in September's issue of the TEC magazine. We couldn't have asked for a more detailed and well considered piece which demonstrates our commitment to our customers and developing the right solution.

This has co-incided with this months launch of our VIPERLITE Bus Priority system now ready for the market.

Since the test results published in the article attached, we have further improved the accuracy.

VIPERVARIO®

The VIPERVARIO® fulfils a wide range of requirements from simple volumetric traffic counting to Loop classification, axle detection classification, incident detection, asset protection and WIM functionality.

The VIPERVARIO® is a direct replacement for existing traffic monitoring equipment, it’s low power operation enables it to operate from a traditional cabinet mounted solar panel and battery.

The VIPERVARIO® is a scalable product, in its simplest configuration it is an 8 loop volumetric counter or 4 lane loop-profiling counter classifier, with the addition of our internal piezo interface card it becomes a loop-piezo-loop axle detection classifier or with a piezo-loop-piezo sensor array it will produce vehicle weight data.

The system is very flexible and can be configured to meet a diverse range of applications that range from simple counting and classification to ITS applications, motorcycle detection, weight restriction zone monitoring, specific vehicle detection and cycle monitoring.

We have designed in the option for an internal GPS receiver that automatically updates the internal system clock and maintains it to a very high standard of accuracy; this is particularly useful and important for integrated applications.

The VIPERVARIO® interfaces to a wide range of external systems including video, ANPR, VMS signs and driver information systems.

It has been designed with two different versions, the BP2 and BP4 which are a two lane and four lane version with independent triggers for each lane.

The VIPERLITE is designed to fit in an existing signal controller cabinet and the loops run from MCH1540 standard. By default the product is supplied to trigger from all bus and coach vehicles however this can be changed to accommodate different requirements (triggering from HGV’s or motorcycles for example).
